The Art of the Gourd

Creating art with an organic gourd canvas, Bonnie Gibson expresses her love for nature and the world around her. A lifelong interest in diverse artistic media including woodcarving, scale miniatures, scrimshaw, glass, and clay has influenced her art and provided her with a wealth of valuable experiences and technical abilities.  By using gourds in innovative and unexpected ways, her designs and techniques make her work distinctive.   Her long time goal has been to lift gourds out of the realm of "craft" and into greater acceptance as fine art.  To that end, she enjoys manipulating gourds in new ways, inviting the viewer to interpret them as something more while retaining their natural essence.

New!  A short documentary  (about  12 minutes) about my path with gourds as an art medium, and my latest work.  This was filmed, edited and produced by Lucas Iouse of Iosue Productions.  Many thanks to my fellow gourd club members, Denise Lown and Betty Ferrari, my gallery owner, Cynthia Wearden, and Waylon Wuertz of the Wuertz gourd farm for helping in the production of this film.     (Link to film if the player below doesn't work for you:  https://bit.ly/3Z8Tkov)
